MICHELLE CONNERTY
TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY COUNCILLOR
2018
Home Is Where the Heart Is and Mine is Here
I believe that a single action can make a difference in our Community, and that collective action
can greatly impact the world.
It's time for our elected officials to listen to and represent the Community and I will do
just that to contribute my part to the greater good.
It's time for a change - we know better - we need to do better!

MICHELLE CONNERTY
A Bit of Background
I was born and raised in the Metro Vancouver area and Victoria. I moved to the Township of Langley (Brookswood) seven years ago with my Husband, three children, two dogs and a cat.
Over the last four years I've watched the Mayor and the majority of Council not listen to the Community and its concerns, they are not forward thinking with design and implementation regarding development and put very little or no value on infrastructure in a timely and cost- effective manner. Let's change this together - Let's Build a Better Langley! #buildabetterlangley
TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY
IMPORTANT ISSUES
Making A Difference

DEVELOPMENT IN THE TOWNSHIP
I fully support development in the Township of Langley - great development! There is no reason to settle for poor quality, badly thought out cookie cutter development - we need to differentiate ourselves from surrounding municipalities and do a much better job. We need walk-able, sustainable communities that will thrive, support and create connected neighbours invested in their homes and each other.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
Some of the issues I am strongly in favour are: protecting ALR land for farming, developing and implementing a reasonable and comprehensive self funding tree cutting bylaw that is not overly onerous for land owners, providing and protecting wild life corridors, creating usable green space and protecting our amazing aquifer and surrounding rivers and streams.

INFRASTRUCTURE
I believe there is something inherently wrong with building more and more homes without providing proper roads, hospital beds, parking, school seats, community amenities, etc. Development Cost Charges (DCCs) and Community Amenity Contributions (CACs) need to be adequate and timely to not offload these infrastructure costs to the Taxpayers of the Township of Langley, which clearly, they are not. This fiscal mismanagement only benefits developers and needs to change.

PERSONAL PROPERTY CRIME IN LANGLEY
The number of vehicle and RV thefts and break ins, brazen shoplifting, bicycle thefts, armed robberies and other personal property crime seems to increase in our neighbourhoods daily. Where is the police presence, where is the response to these acts? In fact, recently the Community Police office was removed from 200th Street and 40th Avenue. We need more help and more support to ensure our Community feels safe and protected - I will work hard to ensure this important issue is addressed quickly.
